Delhi will host the 2026 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship.
The championship is scheduled to take place from August 18 to 22, 2026.
Approximately 300 athletes from 35 Commonwealth nations are expected to participate.
The event will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
This marks the return of the championship to India after 18 years; the last time India hosted was in 2008.
The decision was made during the annual general meeting of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation (CTTF) in Kigali, Rwanda.
The bid from Delhi was unanimously approved by the CTTF executive board.
The championship will feature events in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles for both men and women, alongside team championships.
The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) expressed confidence in delivering a successful event.
TTFI Secretary General, Meghna Ahlawat, highlighted India’s growing prominence in table tennis and the country’s ability to host world-class events.
The event is expected to boost the profile of table tennis in India and inspire a new generation of players.
Delhi was chosen over other potential host cities due to its infrastructure, logistical capabilities, and experience in hosting major sporting events.
The TTFI is working closely with the CTTF and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth and well-organized championship.
This championship is a significant opportunity for India to showcase its sporting prowess and hospitality on the international stage.
The event will contribute to the development of table tennis in the Commonwealth region.
Preparations for the championship are already underway, with a focus on venue upgrades and logistical arrangements.
The TTFI aims to create a memorable experience for athletes, officials, and spectators alike.
