TVK chief Vijay calls on Governor Arlekar, stakes claim to form government in Tamil Nadu

T. Velmurugan, president of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), met Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and formally staked claim to form the government in the state. This follows recent assembly elections where the TVK won three seats.

Velmurugan asserted that the DMK-led coalition did not secure a clear majority, alleging discrepancies in the election results and claiming widespread voter fraud. He presented a letter to the Governor outlining these concerns and requesting a recount in specific constituencies. He specifically mentioned alleged irregularities in seats won by DMK candidates with narrow margins.

The TVK leader stated his party is willing to form a coalition government with other parties, including the AIADMK, to provide a stable administration. He emphasized the need for a fair investigation into the alleged electoral malpractices. Velmurugan also expressed concerns about the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and demanded a return to the ballot paper system.

Governor Ravi reportedly assured Velmurugan that his representation would be examined and appropriate action taken as per the Constitution. The Governor has also sought a report from the State Election Commission regarding the allegations raised by the TVK.

The DMK, however, dismissed the TVK’s claims as baseless and politically motivated. DMK spokesperson KS Ravichandran stated the party enjoys a comfortable majority and that the Governor is bound to invite the party to form the government. The DMK has already initiated discussions with its allies regarding government formation.

The situation remains fluid as the Governor deliberates on the claims and counter-claims. The Election Commission has not yet responded to the allegations of voter fraud. The AIADMK has not officially commented on the possibility of an alliance with the TVK. The Governor’s decision will be crucial in determining the next course of action in Tamil Nadu politics.
