Congress mulls helping Vijay form ‘secular’ govt. in Tamil Nadu after he reaches out for support

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is actively attempting to secure the support of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) to potentially form a coalition government following the recent Lok Sabha elections where the DMK-led alliance failed to win a majority.

Vijay held a crucial meeting with DMK leaders, including Stalin, Duraimurugan, and Kanimozhi, at his Chennai residence. The meeting lasted approximately an hour, and discussions centered around the possibility of TVK extending support to the DMK.

TVK, having won three Lok Sabha seats, holds a significant position as a potential kingmaker. While the DMK alliance secured 39 seats, it fell short of a clear majority in the 39-seat Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha. The AIADMK alliance won 10 seats.

Sources indicate that the DMK is keen on a post-poll alliance with TVK to maintain its hold on power. The specifics of any potential agreement, including cabinet positions or other concessions, remain undisclosed.

The BJP, which contested independently and won none of the seats, is not currently being considered as a potential ally by either the DMK or TVK.

TVK’s decision is crucial, and the party is expected to deliberate internally before formally announcing its stance. The outcome of these negotiations will determine the composition of the next government in Tamil Nadu and the future political landscape of the state.

The meeting signals a serious effort by the DMK to prevent the AIADMK from gaining ground and to ensure the continuation of its governance. TVK’s response is eagerly awaited by all political parties in Tamil Nadu.
