Ashok Kharat, a key suspect in the Maharashtra paper leak case involving the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), has been remanded to police custody until May 9th. Kharat, a former Commissioner of Education, was arrested on May 2nd following allegations of his involvement in irregularities surrounding the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) exam.
Police allege Kharat misused his position to facilitate the leak and benefit certain candidates. Investigations suggest he was in contact with individuals already arrested in connection with the scam, including Tukaram Supe, the former MSCE Commissioner. The police are focusing on establishing a clear link between Kharat and the alleged manipulation of the exam process.
The remand application detailed the need to investigate Kharat’s role in granting approvals and permissions related to the TET exam, specifically focusing on potential irregularities in the selection of exam centers and the handling of question papers. Police are also examining financial transactions to uncover any monetary benefits Kharat may have received.
During the court hearing, Kharat’s lawyer argued against the police custody, citing his cooperation with the investigation and his failing health. However, the court granted the police’s request for a seven-day remand, acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations and the need for thorough investigation.
The case revolves around alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra TET exam held in December 2023, where concerns were raised about the leakage of question papers and manipulation of results. Several arrests have already been made, including high-ranking officials and individuals linked to private institutions. The police are attempting to determine the extent of the scam and identify all those involved in the alleged conspiracy. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities aiming to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process for teachers in Maharashtra. The focus remains on uncovering the full network involved and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
