India has strongly condemned the attack on Indian nationals working in the Fujairah Petroleum Zone in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The attack, involving drones, occurred on January 24, 2024, targeting oil facilities. While no Indian casualties were reported, three Indians sustained minor injuries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the Indian mission in Abu Dhabi is in constant contact with local authorities. They are providing assistance to the affected Indian workers and closely monitoring the situation. The MEA emphasized the importance of stability and security in the region and reiterated India’s commitment to working with partners to achieve this.
The attack was claimed by the Houthi rebel group from Yemen, who stated they launched the attack in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the attack as a dangerous escalation and a threat to regional stability.
The incident raises concerns about the safety of Indian workers in the UAE, particularly in critical infrastructure sectors. A significant number of Indians are employed in the oil and gas industry in the region. The Indian government has urged the UAE authorities to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals.
Following the attack, security has been heightened in the Fujairah Petroleum Zone. Indian companies operating in the area have been advised to review and enhance their security protocols. The MEA has established a dedicated helpline for Indian nationals in the UAE to provide assistance and address any concerns. The situation remains fluid, and India continues to closely monitor developments. The government is committed to safeguarding the interests of its citizens abroad and ensuring their well-being.
