Thirumavalavan, leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), asserts the recent Lok Sabha election results in Tamil Nadu demonstrate public endorsement of the Dravidian model of governance and the coalition led by the DMK. He attributes the clean sweep by the DMK-led alliance – securing 37 of 38 seats – to voters rejecting the BJP’s attempts to establish a national presence in the state.
Thirumavalavan highlights the defeat of prominent BJP candidates, including those with significant financial backing, as evidence of Tamil Nadu’s resistance to the party’s ideology. He emphasizes the state’s consistent opposition to what he terms the BJP’s “Hindutva” agenda and its perceived attempts to impose a singular cultural identity.
He points to the strong performance of the VCK itself, winning two seats, as a testament to the party’s growing influence and its consistent advocacy for social justice and Dalit rights. Thirumavalavan credits the DMK’s inclusive policies and its focus on social welfare for fostering a political climate conducive to the coalition’s success.
The VCK leader dismisses claims of a national wave in favor of the BJP, stating that Tamil Nadu has once again demonstrated its distinct political identity. He argues the election results signify a reaffirmation of the state’s commitment to federalism and its resistance to centralized control.
Thirumavalavan also acknowledges the role of the AIADMK’s weakened state and its inability to effectively counter the DMK-led alliance. He suggests the AIADMK’s alliance with the BJP proved detrimental, further alienating voters. He views the outcome as a clear mandate for the continuation of the Dravidian model, characterized by social justice, inclusive growth, and a strong emphasis on state autonomy. He anticipates the coalition will continue to prioritize these principles in its governance.
