Telangana government distributed free scooters and smartphones to beneficiaries in Sangareddy district on February 29, 2024, as part of various welfare schemes. The initiative aimed to empower women and students.
Approximately 1,600 two-wheelers were distributed to women beneficiaries under the Mahalakshmi scheme, requiring them to have a valid driving license. This scheme intends to provide mobility support for women, particularly for commuting to work or educational institutions.
Simultaneously, around 14,000 smartphones were handed over to first-year junior college students across the district. This is part of a larger state-wide program to provide digital access to students, facilitating online learning and access to educational resources. The smartphones are intended to bridge the digital divide and enhance educational opportunities.
The distribution event was presided over by Minister for Finance Etela Rajender, along with local MLA T. Jagga Reddy and other officials. Minister Rajender highlighted the government’s commitment to implementing welfare schemes and improving the lives of citizens. He emphasized the importance of education and the role of technology in modern learning.
MLA Jagga Reddy urged beneficiaries to utilize the provided resources effectively and contribute to the state’s progress. District Collector Geetha also spoke at the event, outlining the scheme details and encouraging beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunities offered.
The total cost of the scooters distributed amounted to approximately ₹6.4 crore, while the smartphone distribution involved an expenditure of around ₹5.6 crore. The government views these initiatives as investments in human capital and a step towards inclusive development. The event saw a large turnout of beneficiaries and officials, marking a significant day for the Sangareddy district. The schemes are expected to positively impact the socio-economic conditions of the beneficiaries and contribute to the overall development of the region.
